2021 Mazda CX-30 vs 2021 Hyundai Kona: Performance and interior space in the Mazda

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 arrived on the market last year with an impressive engine lineup that got even more remarkable this year with the introduction of the 2.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Of course, this is just the beginning of what the Mazda CX-30 has to offer and immediately, it has been very popular among consumers who want a small SUV that is fun to drive, very fuel-efficient, and quite spacious. Buyers in Quebec love Mazda, and the Mazda CX-30 is everything you expect from a Mazda with added interior space.

This has allowed the 2021 Mazda CX 32 shine against competitors like the 2021 Hyundai Kona. The Kona is also a popular vehicle in this segment, but it has some trouble standing out against the CX-30. That is because it offers less interior space, less performance, and a similar price. It isn't more fuel efficient either. Let's take a closer look at how the 2021 Mazda CX-30 compares to the 2021 Hyundai Kona.

A more powerful engine lineup in the 2021 Mazda CX-30

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is powered right out of the gate by a 2 L four-cylinder engine that delivers 155 horsepower along with 150 lb-ft of torque.  This gives the Mazda CX-30 considerably more power than the 2021 Hyundai Kona which features a 2 L engine but with only 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The Hyundai Kona does offer a turbocharged option with 175 horsepower, but even there, it cannot match the 2021 Mazda CX-30 and it's available 2.5 L that delivers 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. And then earlier this year, the Mazda CX-30 received Mazda 2.5 L turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 250 horsepower. Needless to say, the CX-30 has the advantage when it comes to performance.

It also has the advantage when it comes to interior space. The CX-30 has 572 L of cargo space with all seats in place while the Hyundai Kona only offers 544 L.

Add to this the available features in the CX-30 that you don't find in the Kona like G-Vectoring Control which improves comfort and stability in the city and on the highway, and the 2021 Mazda CX-30 has a lot to offer compared to the Kona.
